Construction has begun on the newest addition to the Crossroads, our community’s evolving downtown. Windmill Station at Carnes Crossroads will be home to several established Charleston area medical practices, along with the community’s first retail and restaurant spaces.
A collaboration between Charleston GI, Charleston ENT & Allergy, and Low Country Rheumatology, Windmill Station will be a new Summerville and Goose Creek address for all three practices, and will offer space for additional providers. It will also be home to the community’s first retail businesses and restaurants. It is envisioned that the location will bring advanced healthcare options to Berkeley County, and businesses and services for the growing resident and workforce population at Carnes Crossroads.
At the April 28 ground breaking ceremony, excitement about the project and the addition of new jobs, services and businesses to Carnes Crossroads was in the air.
Daniel Island Company President Matt Sloan agrees. “This is going to be the new heart of Berkeley County. We’re honored to have a growing selection of some of the finest medical providers in the region establishing a presence here, and look forward to the addition of shopping, dining and services, which these businesses will help attract,” he said.
Windmill Station at Carnes Crossroads is expected to be open next Spring.

Located in the heart of our first neighborhood, the iconic Green Barn is a historic venue that has become a favorite gathering place and home to a diverse array of special events, from a seasonal farmers’ market to cocktail parties, live concerts and fitness classes. The Barn is the centerpiece of a recreational amenity that also includes a 25-meter pool, complete with beach entry and a splash and play area for kids.
The parks at Carnes Crossroads serve as the focal point and a gathering place within each neighborhood, providing countless opportunities to connect with family and friends within the exceptional setting of this community. Some parks will have playing fields or playgrounds, while others offer quaint gardens, fountains and lake view
Carnes Crossroads is designed to incorporate scenic lakes and miles of trails and greenways, presenting numerous options for fitness and recreation. Already, the community’s first trails connect the Green Barn, pool and Village Green to neighborhood streets and some of the community’s first businesses. As Carnes Crossroads grows, additional trails will connect to future neighborhoods, and numerous lakes will offer both scenic views and opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing.
A variety of shops and services will be integrated with the community’s commercial areas. With restaurants, stores and businesses of all kinds, residents in the neighborhoods of Carnes Crossroads will enjoy a world of convenience and entertainment nearby. The community’s central location has also attracted several medical service providers, including Roper St. Francis, which is developing a 90-acre medical campus that will include a new full-service hospital, the first in Berkeley County.
Carnes Crossroads enjoys close proximity to the attractions, conveniences and cultural resources of Summerville and greater Charleston. Charleston’s airport is easily accessible via nearby I-26, as are many of the area’s top employers. Carnes Crossroads’ central location also offers convenient access to I-95, local colleges and universities, area beaches and downtown Charleston’s historic attractions. Just four miles down the road, Summerville’s historic district offers an array of shops, restaurants and regional events. And outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the close proximity and recreational offerings of two of the state’s largest lakes, Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion, both known for big fish and abundant wildlife.
